The tour starts - meet the guide in front of Park Inn by Radisson Danube Hotel, Rybne namestie 1, Bratislava, where you will be given short introduction of Bratislava and Slovakia. The guide will brief you in history of one of the youngest capital cities, and states of Europe, Bratislava & Slovakia. You will hear about ancient history of Slovakia, when the old Slavs, the predecessor of modern Slovaks inhabited Slovakia and created Great Moravia Empire, those days when Slovakia was part of Hungarian and afterwards Austro – Hungarian Empire.
The next part of the tour is by car, pass by the Presidential Palace and the Palisady district, a district full of villas from the beginning of the 20th century, built in a functionalist style. Next is the main highlight of Bratislava, Bratislava Castle, which provides excellent views of the city. Pass by the building of Slovak Parliament and finish with a visit to Slavín Monument, & Devin Castle.
Devin Castle at the confluence of the Danube and Moravia has been settled since prehistoric times. It has seen so much history, from being part of Limes Romanus after the Celtic period to being connected with the name of Prince Rastislav. It was built on a place of Roman building and Great Moravian fortified settlement. It once had a different name - Dowina - and was even blown up by Napoleon's troops! The Castle offers a spectacular panorama of the surrounding area, with views all the way to Austria.Medieval castle Devín is national cultural monument for us in Slovakia.
